Digital Transformation in Materials Science

The ongoing digitization affects more and more areas of everyday life and does not stop at (chemical) laboratories either. Artificial intelligence, automatic synthesis robots and data repositories are already making a new kind of science possible, which can be faster, more accurate and higher reproducible.

In a current publication and cover story in the high-impact journal "Advanced Materials", these trends and their application for the development of new materials are shown. In addition, the limitations as well as the future perspectives and challenges of these new techniques are examined in detail. Thus, a holistic picture of the next generation of materials research can be shown.
